Art of Henna

Am very sure everyone of you would have had Mehndi on the palms and/or feet on your wedding day. Have you ever tried the art yourself? If not, just check the Indian store near by for ready-made Mehndi cones. You may find plenty of Mehndi designs online or use you own creativity to decorate your hands. If you are an artist who can draw, Mehndi is not a big deal. C'mon give it a try.

If you are very good at it, you can decorate other's hands and make cash. Mehndi needs to be on your hands for at least four or five hours. The longer it stays, darker the color is. Once mehndi starts to dry, dab a mixture of lemon juice and sugar using cotton balls to avoid the falling of dried flakes. Its better if you had it overnight. Next morning scratch off the henna and apply coconut or almond oil before washing it with water. The color depends on individual's body heat. After a week, the color fades out slowly. Hoping you would try it someday. Start surprising your friends and family.

Oil free Deepam

Whats special for Karthigai Deepam? Did you light the 'deepam' in your home? Me...Well, I prepared Sweet Appam, Sabudana Vada and as usual Pooha mixture (with coconut and Jaggery). And living in the apartment with carpet covered floors, we can't even think of drawing Rangoli (Kolam) and i really miss it here. Then, we prayed lighting the lamp (Vizhakku) in our Pooja and I also lighted small scented candles (bought from the department store) and arranged in my kitchen counter top. Those candle lights reminds me of my celebration when I was in India, where we used to light the lamps with oil (Agal Vizhakku) and draw rangoli at the entrance of our home. We celebrate it for three days with lighting lamps. Those are real good times, just sitting and enjoying the sweets prepared by my mom.
